Enjoying life and all it has to offer!

Now before you say that you cannot do gourmet cooking let me assure you that is not the case here. When you come to the Gluten Gourmet website you do not have to be a gourmet cook. Not a chef for a living. Home cook who has a love of food and passion for cooking things that taste delicious is who I am!

This is a photo of me enjoying a hard lemonade while at a concert. Watch out because alcohol is grain based. Know what it is made of so you can enjoy a cocktail.

Due to medical reasons (not because you are a fad dieter) it is out of necessity that you have food that is free from things you are allergic too. This is something I understand. The thought of eating cardboard is not delicious. Site after site you can find people talking about going gluten free, giving up flavor, and dishes loved.

About the Gluten Gourmet who is cooking with multiple food allergies …

Health path for me is unique, as is yours. One thing is the path I took, was for me, your path may be different. I do know how to cook food people cannot believe is gluten-free, egg-free, and dairy-free with that kind of flavor. Recipes that you will want to save as well as share.

When I was a teen-ager, I learned I could not drink cow’s milk any longer. Originally thought that I was lactose intolerant. It took a long time to realize it was an allergy that I have an EPI pin for. Fortunate that I can have goat or sheep’s milk products. Trust me when I say I know how hard giving up dairy is. Mom’s family is from Wisconsin, so trust me, I know!

Got the flu shot in 2007 but had a bad reaction to it which caused me to be extremely ill for four months. The next time I got a flu shot was 2021, which was egg free. In 2018 an allergist told me I have an allergy to eggs, which is why the flu shot bothers me. The flu shot cultures are grown in egg cultures. People with egg allergies can have issues with flu shots.

Vegan who eats chicken, wait, isn’t chicken meat?

Giving up dairy and eggs has been harder for me than giving up gluten. Gluten has over three hundred different names, which means it can hide. Also, wheat is on the allergy list, but barley and rye are not.

Eggs are used to make mayonnaise. Mayo is used in salad dressings as well as other recipes. Not to mention, eating eggs at mealtimes. Found that adopting a vegan lifestyle is easier than any other diet. Just vegan who eats meat. LOL

The other thing that I adapted to is that we call the first meal of the day breakfast. Rather than think of the types of food I am eating. For example, eating cereal for breakfast for me is just carbs. Carbs make me hungry a couple of hours later. Protein, vegetables, carb, and fruit is a good first meal of the day. Don’t forget the coffee! We are all different yet similar because we all eat! You need to find food that works for your food allergies as well as your lifestyle.

What has helped me the most was focusing on what I CAN have – not on what I cannot have!

Sarcastic sense of humor as well as not hold things back would be how my friends would describe me. So, grab a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and poke around the website.
